Powerviolence

Siege is a hardcore punk band from Weymouth Massachusetts.  Formed in 1981, they were active in the Boston hardcore scene from 1984 to 1985, reunited briefly in 1991, and reformed again in 2016.  The band has become revered by punk and metal fans and are now regarded as one of hte pioneers of grindcore and powerviolence.

Ground are a powerviolence/hardcore quartet from New Jersey, formed in 2012. Ground brings fast, in your face, powerviolence relentlessness with a sense of humor and a love for memes. (Their most recent split with Bandit is called Grind Hard with a Vengeance.) They’ll come, beat you down, and leave before the crowd knows what happened. Catch them during their first MDF appearance. 

Yacøpsæ are a German grind/powerviolence band founded in 1990, born out of a punk/squat community and named after a local singer (Jakobs). Although Yacøpsæ existed as a duo for their first six years, the addition of a bassist in 1996 cemented their line-up, which has remained unchanged since (with the exception of a few session musicians). Yacøpsæ is known for singing in German, insanely fast and precise blast beats and stop and go breaks. 

This is Yacøpsæ’s second MDF performance, their first occurred in 2006.

Three piece grinders Dead Church come from Detroit, Michigan. (If you’re up on your grind history, you’ll recognize MI as the home of Repulsion.) In true grind fashion, Dead Church has never released a full length, but has released four splits and an EP. This trio blends sheer grind energy and powerviolence aggression into short, under-sixty-second assaults.

This is Dead Church’s first MDF appearance. 

Grin and Bear It is a hardcore/powerviolence band from Cleveland, Ohio.

Left for Dead is a Toronto, Canada based hardcore band.  The group formed in 2004 and released several splits before parting ways.  As of 2013, Left for Dead have reuinted with most of their original members, and they are currently signed to Baltimore based A389 Records.  Left for Dead will be making their first Maryland Deathfest appearance in 2014.

Endorphins Lost are a crust/grind/powerviolence/d-beat band from Seattle, Washington.  The group features members of other great Seattle bands such as Catheter and Capitalist Casualties.  The group released their most recent LP in the summer of 2013, following that up with a rigorous touring schedule, including a visit to Indonesia and Southeast Asia.  Endorphins Lost will be making their first appearance at Maryland Deathfest in 2014.

Stapled Shut are a powerviolence band from Los Angeles, California.  Originally formed in 1991, Stapled Shut were an integral part of the prominent powerviolence scene in Los Angeles in the early 1990's, and they have continued to perform and record for over twenty years.  Stapled Shut will be making their first Maryland Deathfest appearance in 2014.

In Disgust is a grindcore/powerviolence band formed in 2006 in San Jose, California.  In Disgust includes members of veteran grindcore bands like Uzi Suicide, Outraged, and Hostile Takeover.  The group had a short life-span, only releasing one full length album and a few splits before disbanding around 2010.  In Disgust will be reuniting for their first Maryland Deathfest appearance in 2014.
