Doom Metal


Since 2004, Melbourne, Australias' Whitehorse have been an important part of the Australian underground metal scene. Drafting members from the punk, grindcore, experimental, rock, and noise scenes Whitehorse often garner comparisons to the likes of Corrupted, Khanate and Winter.  With twelve releases and 3 U.S. tours under their belt, Whitehorse are ready to bring their unique Austrlian doom/sludge to Maryland Deathfest in 2014.


Bölzer is a two-piece black/death metal band formed in 2008 in Zurich, Switzerland.  Despite their brief history, Bölzer has gained some international noteriety with their most recent releases. Their sound draws on traditional black and death metal and incorporates a slower, more doom-laden style.  The group shares vocalists with New Zealand's Witchrist.  Bölzer will be making their first appearance at Maryland Deathfest in 2014.

My Dying Bride

My Dying Bride are an English doom metal band formed in Bradford, England in 1990.  Along with Anathema and Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride is a forerunner of the death/doom metal genre and considered part of the "Peaceville Three" as all three bands were signed to Peaceville Records at the time.  My Dying Bride has had significant commercial success, and have been quite prolific in their more than twenty year career, releasing eleven studio albums, alongside multiple compilations, live albums, video's and EP's.


Windhand is a stoner/doom metal band that formed in Richmond, Virginia in 2009.  Recently, Windhand signed to Relapse Records, and in 2013, released their second full length album, titled "Soma".   Windhand will be bringing their ambient, psychedelic doom to Maryland Deathfest in 2014.


Crowbar are a sludge/doom band from New Orleans, Louisiana.  Originally formed in 1988, Crowbar is widely considered to be one of the most influential metal acts to come out of New Orleans, a city well known for it's own unique brand of heavy music.  Crowbar were one of the premier bands to play sludge and doom metal, and after 25 years are still widely influential.  Crowbar have also been associated with many other premier acts in heavy metal, and (past and current) members have played with such bands as Acid Bath, Soilent Green, Goatwhore, Down, and Eyehategod.  

Graves at Sea

Graves at Sea are a doom metal/sludge metal outfit from Phoenix, Arizona (now relocated to Oakland, California).  Originally formed in 2002, Graves at Sea disbanded for several years in 2008, but reformed again in 2012 with a new bass player and began writing new music.  Their style is characterized by extremely pained, slow, droning riffs, tortured vocals, and a swampy, sludgy sound.   Graves at Sea will be bringing their unique brand of doom and gloom to Maryland Deathfest in 2014.


Witchrist are a death/doom/black metal band from Auckland, New Zealand.  Formed in 2008, Witchrist shares half their lineup with fellow New Zealand "Doom Cult" members, Diocletian.  Playing a unique mix of blackened death metal mixed with epic doom, Witchrist incorporates the darker side of eastern Asian religions and mythology into their lyrical and artistic themes.  Their 2012 release, The Grand Tormentor, received high praises, and caught the attention of the international metal community.

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats are a psychedelic rock/doom/heavy metal band from Cambridge, UK.  Formed in 2009, their sound is heavily influenced by late 1960's/early 1970's heavy metal, in the vein of Black Sabbath, with a little vintage horror movie inspiration thrown into the mix.    Though they have only been around for a few years, three highly acclaimed full-length albums have helped them garner international attention, including a scheduled stint on a November 2013 European tour with Black Sabbath.

Lair of the Minotaur

Lair of the Minotaur are a doom/sludge/thrash crossover band from Chicago, Illinois.  Their songs lyris are based on some of the bloodies tales in Greek mythology.  They have released four studio albums and have toured extensively in the U.S. and Europe.

Unearthly Trance

Unearthly Trance were a doom/sludge act from Long Island, New York.  Unearthly Trance was named from the song "Crown of the Unearthly Trance", which was on the first Thralldom demo; two of three band members once played with Thralldom.  They were considered of the premier bands in the doom metal genre, however, they split up in 2012 after 12 years.
