At the Gates

At the Gates are a melodic death metal group from Gothenburg, Sweden.  Formed in 1990 as a death metal band, their sound evolved through the 1990's to incorporate a more melodic style.  Their later albums, particularly Slaughter of the Soul, are considered highly influential to the Gothenburg death metal sound.

During the early and mid 1990's, the group had some international commercial success, including having a music video on heavy rotation on MTV.  However, the group disbanded in 1996, not long after the release of Slaughter of the Soul.  After an extended hiatus, the group has reunited on multiple occasions since 2008 to tour on the festival circuit.  2014 will be At the Gates first appearance at Maryland Deathfest.
